There seems to be a lot less excitement in the hall tonight, certainly compared with Ms. Palin’s speech last night. Maybe everyone’s just tired; maybe it’s that Mr. McCain isn’t jabbing Mr. Obama the way Ms. Palin did, or maybe this is just more of a traditional laundry list speech that everyone has heard before.
That’s not to say there aren’t applause lines, but the lines and applause are delivered as if on cue.

His speech makes me feel a lot better as a depressed old-fashioned conservative. But it’s striking how all the things that make me feel good seems to go down flat with this crowd.
And as John McCain’s speech enters its 10th hour, it can be said that we’ve learned a lot tonight. He was a POW. He is a maverick. And Sarah Palin can kill a moose with her bare hands. The only thing we don’t know is whether he used Max Factor or Revlon.
